PAT Portable Appliance Training

PAT TRaining CentrePortable Appliance Testing Ltd has trained nationally in excess of 850 people. Some of the larger companies we have helped include: Salford University, PC World, Alfred McAlpine, Powys County Council and Remploy. However the course is aimed at all company sizes including individuals.

Training can be provided at your premises or at our training centre in Bolton.

Course duration is one day. This may be Internal / External / Correspondence to suit your requirements.

Whilst formulating our training course notes. we have endeavored to take into account a wide variety of candidate ability. Most candidates but not everyone will have some electrical knowledge but require guidance on testing, legislation and the general do's and don'ts of Portable Appliance Testing. Some candidates will be further advanced in electrical testing than others. Some may already be carrying out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and are taking the course purely to gain a certificate to show their competency.

The candidates at the start of training will receive a PAT Pack consisting of our course notes, exam paper and other relevant handouts. They will also receive the I.E.E. "Code of Practice of In-service Inspection and Tesing of Electrical Equipment, and the H.S.E. "Memorandum of Guidance on the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989".

The trainer and the candidate will study the above literature during the classroom sessions.Towards the end of the day some practical testing will be carried out. Once the candidates have left the training day and have read the course notes in more detail they should then attempt the 100 question & answer sheets at the back of our course book. These sheets can be completed using the "open book" method (i.e. use of course notes, relevant booklets, etc are allowed for reference).

After these question sheets have been completed and the candidate feels confident that their knowledge of the subject is good, they should attempt the 40 question exam paper supplied by Portable Appliance Testing Ltd. to assess "competency".

The exam paper is designed to test the candidates' knowledge of current PAT legislation, PAT testing procedures and their ability to assume the role of "In-House PAT Technicians". The exam paper is also "open book".

Upon completion, the exam paper should be returned to Portable Appliance Testing Ltd for assessment. An 80% or better mark will be required for the "Competency" Certificate to be awarded. All candidates achieving an 80% or better mark will receive the Competency Certificate. There is no reason to prevent an unsuccessful candidate re-applying to sit the exam paper. (It is reccommended that further revision be carried out prior to re-application).

Discounts are available if more than 1 person from the same company attends the course on the same day.
